There are several ways to find the newest DVDs in BCPL's catalog. A Boolean search is one way to accomplish this but the specific Boolean search terms will depend on what is meant by "new".  If you want the newest DVD's, which are typically still "On Order" (meaning the library is waiting to receive them, they are listed in the catalog and can be placed on hold) then use the first set of directions below.  If you want the newest DVD's the library has already received, then try the second set of instructions.

Find New DVD's that are still ON ORDER:

  1. Go to the library's website at http://www.bcpl.info/
  2. Click the FIND MATERIALS tab.
  3. Click on the "Boolean" link (last one in the first column).
  4. In the "Boolean search for:" field, enter these exact terms and characters: call="*ON ORDER DVD*"
That's [call, equal sign, quotation mark, asterisk, ON ORDER DVD, asterisk, quotation mark], with no spaces except between the words ON ORDER DVD.

Find New Entertainment DVD's (1 Day Loan DVD's) that have been received (not On Order):

  1. Go to the library's website at http://www.bcpl.info/
  2. Click the FIND MATERIALS tab.
  3. Click on the "Boolean" link (last one in the first column).
  4. In the "Boolean search for:" field, enter these exact terms and characters: call="*1 DAY DVD*"
That's [call, equal sign, quotation mark, asterisk, 1 DAY DVD, asterisk, quotation mark], with no spaces except between 1 DAY DVD.

FYI - These searches should find all DVDs (children's and adult's) and could then be narrowed using the sidebar filters. If you want to see only adult or only children's movies, then use the filters on the left. Scroll down past "Type of Material", "Subjects", "Authors", "Series" and "Pub Date", and select a "Target Audience" of "Adult" or "Juvenile" to narrow the search by audience.

Another way to find the library's newest DVD's is to use the "Hot Titles" pre-constructed search for DVD's button.

  1. Go to the library's website at http://www.bcpl.info/
  2. Click the FIND MATERIALS tab.
  3. Click "Catalog Search".
  4. Look to the left and click "Hot New DVD's" button.
  5. Select "Feature DVD", "Nonfiction DVD" or "TV Series".
FYI - the Hot New DVD's search will not show you every new DVD, it will only show you a selection of them and the list will be a mixture of the "ON ORDER" and "received" DVD's.

Keep in mind that for any of these searches there may be included a few older films because they were recently re-released or just now being released on DVD. While these may not be new to you, they may still show up in your search results since they would be considered new to the library's catalog.
