First you must install Adobe Digital Editions (ADE). Adobe Reader will not work. ADE is a free application and it's the only way to read supplementary content from OverDrive/Libby.

Visit Adobe's website to see the system requirements for ADE.

Steps for Windows

  1. Go to the ADE website, then click the Download tab.
  2. Click the download link for Windows and click Save File.
  3. Once the installer is downloaded, open and run it.
  4. Follow the prompts in the setup wizard. Make sure to leave the Associate .acsm and .epub file types option selected so ADE automatically opens OverDrive ebooks.
  5. Click Done.

Note: If these steps didn't work for you, you may have to install ADE manually.

Before you can download ebooks, you'll need to authorize ADE.

Steps for Mac

  1. Go to the ADE website, then click the Download tab.
  2. Click the download link for Macintosh.
  3. Once the installer is downloaded, open and run it.

  4. Follow the prompts in the setup wizard.
  5. Click Close.

Note: If these steps didn't work for you, you may have to install ADE manually.

Before you can download ebooks, you'll need to authorize ADE.

Now go to BCPL's OverDrive website and sign in with your card number.

Go to My Account > Loans.

Find your title and click on the little paper clip icon (as shown below circled in red). You should be able to read the PDF in a web browser.

If the file you download is an .acsm file, you may need to restart you computer and make sure ADE was installed and authorized.

Then download the supplementary content from BCPL's OverDrive website again.

If the above steps do not work, then try the steps below which include deleting the .acsm file.

  1. Delete the content from Adobe Digital Editions (ADE), then close the program.
  2. Search your computer for the content and delete each copy you find.
They are usually found in [My] Documents > [My] Digital Editions.
  3. Delete the contents of the tasks and failed folders in [My] Documents > [My] Digital Editions > restore.
  4. Delete your temporary internet files. This step is extremely important.
  5. Close and reopen your web browser.
  6. Try downloading the supplementary content again.
